20 years old from Philly Aquafvna makes music that’s honest, emotional, and unafraid to cross genres.
Music has always been in her orbit. Her dad was a professional singer before she was born. “I took an interest in music as young as an infant,” she shares. “I started writing in elementary school and recording at 17, I’ve been consistent for 2 years now.”
But performance is where it all started. Growing up, Aquafvna was obsessed with movies, musicals, and the art of putting on a show. She taught herself to sing and dance just from watching. “The first 16 years of my life were artist development,” she says, and it shows.
She sharpened her skills on dance teams, where she learned discipline and showmanship. She fell in love with poetry in middle school, and let her favorite rappers guide her pen. All of it laid the foundation for the genre-bending artist she is now.
Aquafvna’s experimented with hip hop, R&B, alt rock, and more recently, pop. But her heart lives in Rock and Roll. Whether she’s on a track or on a stage, it’s clear she’s not just performing, she’s present.
Inspiration for her comes from the world around her. “My environment inspires me mostly. The stories I hear. I meet a lot of people and they influence my stuff immensely. Even the seasons inspire me,” she says. “Summer is super hot and I don’t particularly like the heat, but I love the optimism it brings.”
When it comes to musical icons, her list is stacked with greatness:
Beyoncé is her biggest inspiration, “that’s my musical mother,” she says. “She hustles for the win, it’s not given… her music feels like home.”
Michael Jackson is “the blueprint for all of us.” Nicki Minaj taught her to be strong, weird, and intelligent.
Rihanna gave her freedom through musical diversity, a fearless spirit, and a story she deeply connects to. Every answer, every move, every bit of her story points to this: Aquafvna is an artist who knows exactly what she wants, and she’s willing to work for it.
