Vineland, New Jersey’s own Xavier May is a rising voice in the next wave of hip-hop and R&B. At just 20 years old, he’s already developed a sound that feels timeless, smooth, soulful, and rooted in real emotion. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Xavier and seeing his growth firsthand, from his early releases to his captivating live performances that always leave a mark.
Music has been part of Xavier’s life for as long as he can remember. As a kid, he’d breakdance to Chris Brown and Michael Jackson videos at family functions, finding early joy in rhythm and expression. Growing up in a Puerto Rican household, he was surrounded by everything from Aventura and Daddy Yankee 🇵🇷| to Big Pun and Jadakiss, sounds that would later blend into the foundation of his artistry.
His love for hip-hop and R&B eventually expanded into exploring jazz and soul influences, with legends like Sam Cooke, Ray Charles, and Billie Holiday shaping his ear for storytelling. Artists such as Mac Miller, Schoolboy Q, and Isaiah Rashad also play a major role in his inspiration, reminding him to keep things raw, reflective, and true.
Xavier’s upcoming collaborative project, “XYZ,” with producer Kaiju (Zay), captures exactly that, nostalgia, honesty, and good vibes meant to connect with listeners on a deeper level. He describes his approach simply: he wants his music to be “the comfort for other people”, a safe space, the same way music once was for him.
